An Awards for All Lottery Grant of £9,800 has been made to Arun U3A (University of The Third Age).

The U3A has charitable status and operates nationwide through some 700 local federated organisations of which Arun U3A is one with some 600 retired or semi-retired people in membership currently.

Arun U3A itself runs 55 interest activity groups ranging from Art, Poetry and Languages to Gardening, Walking, Card Games and Scrabble. A total mix in fact of physical, social, academic and artistic interests.

The Grant will be divided between additional outreach, helping members become more confident using computers and the purchase of modern projection kits.

The projection kits using, for example, a National U3A DVD (Video Disc) will help existing group leaders (convenors) train new ones and also to run DVD or Slide Show based courses for small groups in volunteer host people's homes or in sheltered accommodation communal rooms and village halls.
