Hon.
Treasurer, Bryan Stephens
Bryan
was born in Stanmore in 1940. He left school at 16 and started with
a bank.
Twenty
five or so years later, holding a management position, he left and
joined one of his customers who specialised in the sale of private
residential care homes, hospitals and nursing homes, in order to set
up and head a new department which raised funds for care home
purchasers.
Bryan
retired in the early 90's and, through one of his mother’s friends,
was introduced to bridge, which subject he has taught for several
years.
Married
to Margaret since 1963, Bryan has three grandchildren.
Bryan
has written two books on bridge – The Road Across the Bridge
– aimed at those who want to learn bridge from scratch and the
second book is titled – Retracing Steps Across the Bridge –
aimed at those folk who know how to play what he calls basic bridge
but who miss out on many of the little intricacies which make the
game so interesting.
Being
so heavily involved in bridge, (according to his wife) Bryan decided
there may be a life outside, and in February 2010 answered an
advertisement for the Treasurer’s job with the local U3A which he
finds both absorbing and interesting.
