Chair & Regional Rep, Ann Wickenden
Ann
was born in Yorkshire in 1935 and spent her childhood in Notts
and Essex where she went to a Quaker Boarding School.
She
trained as a Paediatric Nurse at Great Ormond St. Hospital followed
by General Training in Brighton and Midwifery at St Thomases
Hospital London. Ann worked in a variety of roles in Clinical Practice
in Brighton, Canada, Italy, Switzerland, Chichester and Midhurst
where she was a Ward Sister at KE7 for 3 years. She then qualified as a
Nurse Teacher and spent the rest of her career in nurse/teacher
education in Sussex and finally at the University of Surrey, Guildford.
Ann completed a PhD in Educational Studies in the 1980's.
Since
Ann
retired she has been a Guide Commissioner in Durrington for 5 years
and currently does voluntary work with the Sussex Wildlife Trust and
Neighbourhood Watch. As well as U3A she is a member of Littlehampton
Inner Wheel.
Ann has
been on the U3A Committee for 5 years and for most of that time she
has
represented Arun at Regional Meetings. For 4 years she was the
Regional Link for Sussex and attended National Meetings in London.
For the last 2 years she has helped with the U3A Summer Schools in
Chichester.
Ann enjoys
walking, gardening, travel, a variety of arts and crafts and good
chat and good food with friends and family ( this comprises many
nephews and nieces followed by quantities of greats and 3 great
greats!).
