Virtual U3A
The Virtual U3A (vU3a) is an online-only U3A,
which went live in January 2009, affiliated to the Third
Age Trust. One of its principal aims is to provide the U3A
experience for those who are rendered isolated in some way by
circumstances or geography and unable to play a full part in a
terrestrial U3A. More information is available on the public website
www.vu3a.org where one can also apply for membership. Why
not pay it a visit? And if you know of anyone who might benefit,
please pass the information on.

Holiday with Chichester U3A
Floriade 14th May 2012 5 days
Chichester U3A are
organising a trip to the Floriade World Horticultural Expo in
Holland for 5 days departing May 14th 2012 and have invited members
of Arun to join them. The cost for 5 days is £399 for half board in
the 3*Best Western Hotel in Valkenburg near Maastricth. Visits to
other places are also included. Several members of the Gardening
Group have already applied in order to ensure a place. If we get
enough people from this area we can possibly organise a pick up in
Rustington as well as Chichester so please let Ann Wickenden know if
you apply.

Inter-U3A Workshops
This is an enterprise organised by the Sussex U3A Network and is
aimed at sharing ideas and experience between members of similar
groups in different U3As throughout Sussex.

ICE
If we were to be involved in an
accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our
mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are
hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in
case of an emergency? Hence the 'ICE' (In Case of
Emergency) Campaign. 
All you need to do is store the number of the person who should
be contacted during an emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case
Of Emergency).
For more than one contact simply
enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.
The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went
to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with
patients, but no-one knew which number to call. He thought it
would be a good idea to have a nationally recognized name for this
purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and
hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by
simply dialling the number you have stored as 'ICE.'
A great idea that
will make a difference!

events and changes within Arun U3A. They deal only with
U3A business.
Roger sends out bulletins on Saturdays, so
please ensure that any items for inclusion reach him by 10pm on
the Friday before.

Booking a Venue for Arun U3A Meetings
Booking halls and meeting rooms for U3A activities is done through
our Venue Booking Secretaries. There is now a form for Group
Leaders
to
request a new venue. Please help the Booking
Secretaries by using the form.
The on-line copy is a WORD document. To use it:

Click
Booking Form to save the form on your computer;
if you do not have Word on your PC - see below for paper copies.
-
Type in the required
information as and when you can; remember to save
the document each time you change it.

When the form is
complete please email it to the relevant Booking Secretary; see the
top of the form for details.
Paper copies of the form are also available at monthly
meetings and Middleton coffee mornings, or direct from the Booking
Secretaries.
